Australian exit shows Serena Williams is haunted by trauma of US meltdown

24-01-2019 Serena Williams has insisted she will ‘soldier on’ in search of slam glory but her quarter-final collapse against Karolina Pliskova posed questions about her emotional stateSerena Williams leaves Melbourne – and the rest of tennis – less certain about her future than her magnificent past, upset yet oddly resigned to the fact that what she hoped would be the extension of her comeback had unravelled in glorious confusion. In trying to rationalise the disappointment of falling three wins short of drawing alongside Margaret Court with a staggering 24 career majors, Williams moved with far more dexterity in the aftermath than she did while enduring a head-spinning collapse in the third set of her quarter-final against Karolina Pliskova. Football transfer rumours: José Mourinho lined up by PSG?

24-01-2019 Today’s rumours are in harmonyFresh from delivering a plaintive lament about the difficult character of the modern player, José Mourinho has been tipped to become the new manager of Neymar. Thomas Tuchel is under pressure, see, after only winning 9-0 last weekend in Ligue 1, where PSG have but a 13-point lead at the top of the table, with two matches in hand. If they were to offset that embarrassment in that Champions League, then the French club might jilt Tuchel and make a move for Mourinho, who bumped into the the PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, while a-punditing in Qatar recently. That story will sadden the hearts of fun-lovers, who would much prefer Mourinho to be thrust into power at PSG *before *their next Champions League fixture, which, of course, is against Manchester United, whose fortunes have turned around in exactly the manner you’d expect after replacing Mourinho with a bubbly work experience intern from Norway. Megavalanche, footballers dancing badly and a perfect 10 | Classic YouTube

24-01-2019 Also featuring a full-court buzzer beater, some dire defending and a 1956 lap round Le Mans (including oncoming traffic)1) Clear some time in your day, strap in and relive the 40 minutes of mayhem that was Megavalanche 2018 from the point of view of the winning rider, Damien Oton, who somehow stayed upright while whizzing down the French Alps on a bike … in the snow.2) There have been plenty of dancing footballers down the years but not many quite so enthusiastic as Raul Meireles in Lip Sync Portugal. Just look at those shoulders go. He’s got form from his playing days, mind. But spare a thought for poor Mo Salah. He would have probably preferred Sadio Mané to win African Footballer of the Year had he known he was going to be forced to dance on stage by Youssou N’Dour. And we’re not sure about Carlos Tevez’s moves in this video when he was in a band called Piola Vago. He looks as if he’s having much more fun than he ever had in the Chinese Super League, though. Sergio Agüero is another South American footballer whose body moves better on a pitch than in time to music. Here he is self consciously fronting a song about himself by the band Los Leales. Youri Djorkaeff takes his dancing far too seriously in this R&B effort. And Jürgen Klopp did a bit of dad-dancing recently too. We’ve seen worse. Continue reading...

Email or tweet @collinsadam 3.59am GMT 11th over: Sri Lanka 27-1 (Karunaratne 11, Chandimal 1) The skipper, Chandimal, was not down to bat at No3 but he is walking out now at the fall of the first wicket instead of Dhananjaya. He’s off the mark first ball with a push to mid-on, Karunaratne defending the rest of the successful set with soft hands. That was the first wicket for Pat Cummins as Australia’s vice-captain. Through him, we’re one step closer to the fast bowler captaincy revolution. Viva! OUT. And who else to strike but @patcummins30?!Thirimanne goes, and it's 1/26 #AUSvSL 3.54am GMT Full and round the wicket, Cummins gave Thirimanne an invitation to drive that he could not turn down. Doing just enough off the deck, the outside edge flew straight into the hands of the local boy Labuschagne at third slip. They’re away. Continue reading...
